I had just completed a master’s in drama and theatre and wanted to start a career. That’s when I saw Tesco’s graduate programme. I started working in-store where I had the chance to experience every aspect of the store from bakery to checkouts and from there I went on placements as a line manager in general merchandise.

In addition to the in-store experiences and training days, we also went on regular site visits, including to our massive distribution centre, which really gave me a sense of the scale of the business. We also got to meet many of our food suppliers which helped me to understand the journey from “farm to fork”.

I’ve been in Tesco almost two years now and I’m just finishing the role of Corporate Responsibility Manager, an opportunity I was given during my second rotation of the graduate programme. Now I’m about to start a new permanent role as Internal Communications Manager.

I was also responsible for organising our involvement in Dublin pride. This was our first time ever being involved and I was so excited to bring something new to the company, especially when it supports colleagues in such a meaningful way.

Over 150 colleagues, along with their friends and families, joined us on the day to march in the parade. I organised a 40-foot Tesco delivery truck to act as a float on the day which featured a crowd cheerometer and bubble machines. To support this, our stores in Dublin city centre changed the Tesco chevrons to the rainbow colours of Pride for the weekend which looked amazing.

I enjoy the work-life balance in Tesco as it allows me to pursue my own interests outside of work.

I’m involved in CoisCéim Broadreach where I have taken contemporary dance classes, been involved in choreography projects and even worked with young people to create dance films.

Likewise on my team, everyone has different lifestyles and different ways of working and they are all accommodated here which I think is fantastic.
